Beginner Ballet Years 1 & 2 for Children

Our unique Beginner Ballet programme for younger children was devised by our Principal, Ms. Tan, to cater to the needs & interests of kids in nursery & kindergarten who love to dance. Development of self-confidence, postural awareness, gross and fine motor skills, response to music, creative expression, and introduction of basic ballet steps are key features of our pre-school ballet & dance curriculum. We provide an enjoyable and semi-structured learning environment, where boys & girls shall grow & thrive.

Our Beginner Ballet lessons are 45 minutes in duration, and are conducted once-a-week. This early learning programme provides a secure foundation in the basics of dance & movement aesthetics, at an impressionable age, so that the students may confidently & securely progress to the RAD Grades ballet syllabus at Pre-Primary in Dance (PPID) level, at the completion of Beginner Ballet Year 2.

BEGINNER BALLET YEAR 2 CLASS: we offer a Beginner Ballet Year 2 (2017) class for children. This on-going class is scheduled on Saturday at 2.30 to 3.15 p.m.

A few vacancies are available for boys & girls age 5+ & up in calendar year 2017, with prior ballet/dance learning experience. A trial lesson is available only via appointment. Enquiries are welcome, & we would like to recommend that potential students join in as soon as possible, to benefit from the range & depth of the curriculum.

BEGINNER BALLET YEAR 1 CLASS: Our  Beginner Ballet Year 1 (2017) entry-level class has commenced on Saturday 01 April 2017. The class is scheduled on Saturday at 1.30 to 2.15 p.m.

RAD Grades Ballet Syllabus Classes

Royal Academy of Dance promotes knowledge, understanding and practice of dance internationally. We seek to accomplish our mission through promoting dance, educating and training students and teachers and providing examinations to reward achievement. (Courtesy of the Royal Academy of Dance.)

Our school offers RAD Grades & RAD Higher Grades ballet syllabus classes and training towards the RAD suite of examinations. Our students are encouraged to stretch their potential, develop their talents, and work towards success via the RAD Class Awards, Solo Performance Awards and Examinations. Some of our top candidates have garnered perfect scores in the RAD exams. An annual passing rate of 100% is another achievement that we are proud of. The education through dance that we offer includes the RAD PPID (Pre-Primary in Dance), RAD PID (Primary in Dance), and the RAD Grades 1 to 8 Ballet syllabus classes. The PPID and PID syllabi build on younger children’s interest to move & dance, and follow on from our Beginner Ballet entry-level curriculum.
The RAD Grades ballet syllabus through to the Grade 8 Award incorporates Free Movement and Character Dance. Learning the styles & nuances of other dance genres allow our students to enrich & expand their dance horizons.

RAD Vocational Grades Ballet Syllabus Classes

Students of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Vocational Grades ballet examination syllabus classes are pre-professional dancers with substantial prior training in classical ballet. A high-level of instruction & commitment are required for success at RAD Vocational levels, and this may pave the way towards careers in dance & the performing arts.

For female dancers, the syllabus emphasizes on elegant virtuosity & pointe work, while pirouettes and allegro (turns and jumps) are a distinctive focal point of training for male dancers. Contact us for the pre-entry requirements. All applicants shall participate in a trial lesson with us prior to enrollment.

Our Principal Ms. Tan initiated & organised for a group of our Vocational-level students to attend events of the RAD Genee International Dance Competition in Sydney Australia, in December 2016. The students’ learning experience included a mini summer intensive at the Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy, inclusive of Ballet, Progressing Ballet Technique, Contemporary Dance and Russian Character Dance.

Welcome to visit Palais Dance Studio’s official Facebook page for photos from the trip to Sydney, and for more photos of our students & events.

Professional Endeavors

In September 2004, our Vice-Principal, Miss Teo, was joined by three of our senior female dancers and four guest male artistes to perform at the University Cultural Centre (UCC) in the operatta, “The Merry Widow”.  This professional production by the Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) was graced by the presence of His Excellency, President S R Nathan, as the Guest of Honor. The SLO is Singapore’s only professional western opera company. Miss Teo had previously worked as as choreographer and principal dancer in the SLO’s productions of Bizet’s “Carmen” in 1998 and 2002.

Miss Teo also has some behind-the-scenes experience on a movie production. She coached Fann Wong (MediaCorp artiste) on 01 September 2007, on set of the movie, “Dance of the Dragon”, specifically for the star’s ballet scene. In 2007, Miss Teo had also coached the Top 3 finalists, Melvin and Sharon, towards the Channel 5 reality dance competition, “The Dance Floor.”
